Spring Agro Industries Limited has called on Ghanaians to support the country’s agricultural sector by increasing the consumption of locally produced rice.
According to Emmanuel Tetteh Coffie, Volta Regional Sales Manager of the company, the quality of locally produced rice in Ghana has significantly improved and can compete favorably with imported varieties. He emphasized that Made-in-Ghana rice is comparable to imported rice in both taste and quality, urging consumers to have confidence in locally produced brands.
The company currently cultivates rice across about 2,000 acres of farmland in Adidome in the Volta Region and Akuse in the Eastern Region, where non-genetically modified rice is grown.
Speaking during the Volta Trade and Investment Fair, Mr. Coffie noted that participation in the event has helped the company create awareness about its products and build networks to expand its market presence.
Despite progress in the sector, he identified continued rice importation and limited access to financing for local producers as key challenges affecting Ghana’s rice industry. He therefore urged government and stakeholders to create an enabling environment that supports local rice producers and strengthens domestic agricultural production.
Spring Agro Industries believes that increased patronage of Ghanaian rice will not only boost local agribusiness but also create jobs, support farmers, and contribute to national food security.
